Ryan Mathew
Ryan Mathew is an Associate Professor at the University of Leeds and an Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
His clinical practice covers the full spectrum of general neurosurgery with a subspecialty interest in brain tumours; in particular gliomas, meningiomas and awake surgery. After completing his PhD in Glioma Stem Cells and Organoids, he spent time at the Brain Tumour Research Centre at Sickkids in Toronto.
He leads a research portfolio that encompasses brain tumour biology and surgical technologies. Specific areas of interest include brain tumour modelling, margin zone biology, virtual/mixed reality, machine learning/AI, real-time intra-operative tumour visualisation, and neurotechnologies (brain computer interfaces) for brain monitoring and therapeutics.
He also leads and participates actively in Clinical Trials and is co-founder of the UK LGG Network which is working with industry and multiple centres around the UK to formulate new trials. He has been PI on numerous Brain Tumour and Neurosurgical Clinical Trials.
He has published numerous papers, is an internationally invited speaker and teaching faculty, peer-reviews for a number of journals and grant award committees, and has obtained > £8M in grant funding (PI or Co-I).
