The Clifford Chance Tech//Digital and Intellectual Property teams are delighted to host the inaugural lecture of The Centre for Neurotechnology and Law, presented by Professor Allan McCay, Fellow of the University of Sydney and first President of The Centre. The Centre for Neurotechnology and Law is a pioneering research and advocacy establishment dedicated to exploring the intersection of neuroscience and law, which marks a significant milestone in the evolving dialogue between deep-tech and the legal profession.

Dr Allan McCay is Deputy Director of the Sydney Institute of Criminology and Academic Fellow at the University of Sydney Law School. He is the author of the influential book, Free Will and the Law, and the 2022 Law Society report on neurotechnology. With a background as a solicitor and commercial litigator, Dr McCay is a distinguished voice at the interface between neurotechnology and the law.

The Centre was launched on 3rd of May 2024, in response to the recent, revolutionary advances in neurotechnology, including brain-computer interfaces designed to enhance and interface directly between human and machine. The emerging and growing commercialisation of neurotechnology will have far-reaching implications, significantly influencing investment trends in the health tech sector, and raising important questions surrounding ethics and regulation.
