Namrata Bhowmik

Namrata is a licensed Indian lawyer and the Founder of the GenNeuroSociety Research Lab (GNSRL), a think tank that explores the intersection of neurotechnology, body dysmorphia, and the fashion industry through the lenses of law, genetics, psychology, and robotics. Currently pursuing an LLM in Intellectual Property and Data Protection at the University of Law, London, she brings a unique interdisciplinary perspective to the Centre for Neurotechnology and Law.

Her work focuses on how neurotechnological design, legal frameworks, and social constructs influence body image, autonomy, and mental privacy in increasingly digitised and immersive environments. Namrata has worked across three jurisdictions in the field of IP and data protection, and her past roles include legal research and content creation for leading IP firms in India, Thailand, and the US, with a special focus on fashion law and emerging technologies.

Having authored several peer-reviewed articles, including From Models to Mannequins: The Oxymoronic Equation of Labour Law Standards in the World of Fashion (Cleveland State Law Review), Namrata continues to bridge the gap between academic research and lived experience. Her interest in the fashion-tech-identity nexus stems from a deeply personal journey of body acceptance, which fuels her commitment to research that is not only legally sound but also emotionally grounded.
