Dr Andreas Tarnaris
I have a unique combination of clinical, academic and regulatory knowledge and skillset. I am a Neurosurgeon with working experience in the NHS (U.K.) at Consultant (Attending) level, and subspecialty expertise and interest in Functional Neurosurgery/ Neuromodulation. This followed my completion of a Senior Royal College of Surgeons of England fellowship in Oxford, UK, as well as a fellowship from Toronto, Canada and Liverpool, UK. As a senior clinician I enjoyed mentoring and training healthcare staff of various disciplines. I have more than 20 years of postgraduate clinical experience working in hospitals and other healthcare environments inclusive of research organisations.

In addition I was awarded with a postgraduate research degree from University College London (MD Res) focused in clinical/laboratory science/translational research and biomarker development. To date I have authored and co-authored 35 publications in peer-reviewed journals, with more than 1,200 citations, and an h-index of 21 as of 2024. During that time I developed extensive experience as a PI and co-PI in clinical trials and worked with medical devices manufacturers.
I am also a former clinical expert at one of the European Notified Bodies (BSI) on the Active Implantable Devices team. I assessed the first in Europe successful Class III active implantable medical device application under the new EU medical device regulation (MDR). I was an invited expert for the European Union's 2021 HORIZON-EIC-2021-PATHFINDER CHALLENGES-01 for funding “Tools to measure and stimulate activity in Brain Tissue”.

Using my combined clinical, academic as well as regulatory experience and networks I have obtained an in-depth understanding of the requirements for clinical evidence, regulatory compliance, post-market surveillance, and post-market clinical follow-up and can advise and provide strategies to navigate the complex pathways from clinical development to market.
